Financial planning On THE CENTRAL COAST

Financial advisers Central Coast locals trust

We have been advising Central Coast families from our Erina Plaza office for decades, and between our two advisers there is more than 70 years of experience in the room. Kim Sindel and Steven Field are both long-term Coast locals, so the advice you get here comes from people who live where you live.

Most of our clients are approaching retirement or already there, many of them having made the move up from Sydney, and we are the financial advisers Central Coast locals rely on for a good reason. You will find us easy to reach and happy to come to you.

That longevity shapes what we are known for.

Why choose us on the Central Coast

Financial planning in Erina is led by Senior Financial Advisers Kim Sindel and and Steven Field. Between them, they bring more than 70 years of experience, and both have spent their lives on the Central Coast. Many of their clients have been with them for two or three decades, which means the advice is rarely a one-off transaction; it is a relationship that has already been through a house purchase, a career change and now, for a lot of those families, retirement.

That longevity shapes what we are known for. Most of the people we advise are retirees or close to it, and the work is the practical end of retirement planning: turning super into an income that lasts, understanding how Centrelink and the age pension interact with your assets, working out what an inheritance or a redundancy payment means for a plan you have already made. We also advise younger families moving up from Sydney and self-employed locals building super without an employer behind them — the Coast book is broader than it looks.

Frequently asked questions

I am thinking about relocating from Sydney to the Central Coast for retirement — what do I need to plan for?

A sea-change retirement usually frees up significant capital from a Sydney property and creates a different cost base on the Coast. The planning covers the timing of the sale and its capital gains treatment, how much of the proceeds can go into super and under which contribution caps, whether a downsizer contribution is available to you, and how the whole lot converts into a retirement income. It is also worth planning for the lifestyle adjustment itself; people are often surprised by how different their spending looks once they are here.

Can I put money from selling my home into super when I move to the Coast?

Possibly. The downsizer contribution lets eligible Australians of a specified age contribute proceeds from selling their main residence into super, outside the standard contribution caps. The rules on age, ownership history, and timing are detailed, and they are federal rules, nothing is specific to the Central Coast, though state-based costs like stamp duty will differ depending on where you buy. We can model whether the strategy suits your situation before you commit to a sale date.

How should I think about investment property on the Central Coast compared with other markets?

Property is one part of a diversified strategy, not the whole strategy. Local property feels safer because you know the streets and can drive past it, but concentrating your wealth in a single market and asset class carries real risk, especially if you also own the home you live in nearby. We can help you compare a property purchase with other investments on an after-tax, after-cost basis, including what it does to your liquidity and your income in retirement.

I am self-employed or run a trade on the Coast — what should I be doing about super and income?

Without an employer contributing on your behalf, super becomes a deliberate decision rather than something that happens automatically. The usual conversations are personal concessional contributions, the work test rules if you are older, and how to balance contributing to super against paying down a mortgage. Just as important, and often skipped over, is a backup plan to protect your income: if you are the business, an illness or injury stops the money coming in. Income protection and the right personal insurances are part of the plan, not an afterthought. Good bookkeeping and accounting support also make a material difference; it keeps you out of trouble and gives you numbers you can actually plan with.

I have received an inheritance — will it affect my age pension?

It can, and this is one of the most common conversations we have. An inheritance arriving in a retiree’s hands can push them over an assets or income threshold and reduce or stop a pension payment they had been relying on. What you do with the money and when makes a real difference to the outcome, which is why it is worth getting advice before it lands rather than after. We model the Centrelink implications alongside the rest of your plan so you can see the full picture.

Wendy

When you place your financial business in the hands of Kim Sindel ,you can completely trust her as your adviser. Kim makes herself incredibly accessible, and she explains all facets of your financial journey carefully and clearly.

Kim can cut through the financial jargon, and she has the patience to answer questions you may not otherwise have had the confidence to ask. She gives you confidence that your preferences are understood, your decisions heard, and your needs met. I confidently recommend Kim to friends and family.

Case study 1

One plan, four life stages

Situation: We first met this couple when the wife received an inheritance, and they were unsure what to do with it. Over the years that followed, the picture kept changing: her husband was made redundant from a long-term role with a local council, a second inheritance arrived, and retirement moved from an abstract idea to a date on the calendar.

What we did: Rather than treating each event as a separate problem, we rebuilt the plan at each stage. That meant modelling what each inheritance would do to their Centrelink position, managing the redundancy payment and the gap in income that followed it, and progressively positioning their assets so that retirement was a step rather than a cliff.

Outcome: They retired in good shape, with an income strategy they understood and no unwelcome surprises from Centrelink. It is a fair illustration of how we work: the same adviser across decades, adjusting the plan as life does its thing.

Case study 2

Just over the threshold

Situation: A client came to us as she was preparing to retire after 23 years with the same employer. On the numbers as they stood, her assets sat just above the level at which the age pension cuts out, close enough that she was set to miss out entirely, with no real benefit from being over the line.

What we did: We reviewed her full position and restructured how and where her assets were held, timing the changes around her retirement date and her contribution caps.

Outcome: She now qualifies for the age pension, with the income support that comes with it, alongside a retirement income strategy built around it. A relatively small amount of planning made a lasting difference to her income for the rest of her retirement.
